Help me Decorate! {please}

Oh my stars. I am stumped.
I love this area of the house, and have a few ideas but all of them are costly. With adoption right around the corner I just can not justify spending a fortune on this area.

The problem. It's right when you walk in the front door. It sets the tone for the house and currently sets my mood to frustration when I walk inside.

I have this posted on Facebook as well. I have received a lot of suggestions about a Photo Wall. I have a Photo Wall in the adjacent room and I don't want to overkill the "Photo Wall".
In addition, this is the current view of the entry way. Hence the reason it needs to be revamped.   I recently removed a Large Mirror and Sconces because they were not my cup of tea. {if that helps}.
{taken with phone in bad lighting}

IDEAS PLEASE! What would you do with this space. {Keep in mind that there is no electrical outlet... yea, I know. A man clearly designed it}.

I need solutions. That is where you come in. So... what do you think?

I would do a pottery barn like bench with the baskets in it. Maybe hang three pictures over the bench spaced out evenly in a straight line? I think that would look nice.

Oh and as far as money? I think the bench would be easy to make, Pottery barn gives dimensions on there website. Or you can buy from pottery barn kids and sometimes the furniture is on sale. We bought a bench for Blakely's room and it was on clearance for just about $100 which I'm not saying is cheap but hey for pottery barn I thought that was really good.
Good luck, I hope you get lots of great ideas.

You could paint the indented area a bright or bold color....unfortunately that's all I got for ya ; )

I would put a console table there with a mirror hanging above it (one last look before heading out haha) and then some baskets underneath to throw shoes, gloves etc. :) You can get some really cute console tables that aren't too expensive and hobby hobby or TJ maxx has loads of inexpensive mirrors. :)

I'm huge into collections. In our living room, we have a bunch of "D"s on the fireplace. In Arielle's room, she has a bunch of A's. I REALLY want to do this (we have huge empty walls that are 12 feet tall and I don't know what to do with them)

But hubby says it looks like there should be prices tags on them, like it's a sconce wall for sale. But he's a man, what the hell does he know?

How about using an accent color in the little niche, then looking for a hall tree or armoire on Craigslist or at goodwill that you could refinish?

Large wall decal in the indented area (maybe one that starts at the baseboards and comes up- like a plant or tree of some kind) and then like 3 woven baskets/storage areas in front of the decal. Rug runner in the hallway.
Big W or clock on the wall directly in front of you.

Crosses! We have 4 picture frames with no back or glass as frames with multiple crosses on one of our walls. Looks great.
