I don't think you are ready for this...

What up: I never can think of a creative title when I post about our updates. I'm boring like that. Even though it's been a while since my last update {I can't believe I have turned into "that" blogger} I still go through each of my days noting blog worthy material but I never have time to sit down and write it all out. I'll try and catch up now.

Party: We had an amazing Spiderman Birthday Party for a really cool 5 year old at the Children's Home. I say "we" because I have had some incredible support from family and friends. When I say incredible that is still an understatement.  These children are so special and deserve so much. My friends and family have stepped up to the plate and have contributed monetarily to make not only their dreams come true, but mine as well. It brings me so much joy knowing that these kids are enjoying their special day.

New City: I can't believe that we have been here long enough to run into someone we know while we were out and about shopping one afternoon. It's also amazing that I know my way around this place like I have lived here forever.  I surprised myself at how quickly I have learned the routes. Even the back roads and short cuts. That folks is pretty cool.

Bible Study and Mops:  It was not long after we moved here that I visited a Mops groups at the Church.  It was much needed Mommy Time, and Kyah seemed to enjoy playing with the kiddos. Since that time we have joined and now attend every other Friday.  From what I hear, each Mops meets at different intervals, but I have to say that I love the Bi-weekly meetings that we have. I also began a 4 month Bible Study at the church that will meet every Wednesday.  I have a story that is worthy of it's own blog post {which I may never get to so forgive}, but what's most important about this group is that it consists of the most amazing girls I have ever met. I am beyond blessed that God has placed them in my live. One girl in particular, went through the same thing I did after the delivery of her twins. Three others in the group have adopted, and all of the girls in the group are moms to boys. Simply amazing and perfect for me  during this phase of life.

Adoption: Of course... I must post an adoption update. We have not begun the process of adoption, but conversation about it is definitely something that we have more of. Kyah is getting older and way more independent {see next update} and we are feeling that the time to  start the process will come before next year. As a matter of fact, we attended an adoption conference this morning/afternoon and have been chatting about a few things here and there since. It's definitely something that we will do. It's just getting things in order now and settling in our new house more.  More to come on this subject as we have more to share.

Kyah: This child is so fantastic I don't even know where to begin.  He has grown so much in this last month that he doesn't even look like the same kid. Ok, well, that's a lie. He does look the same, but you know what I mean. He is a complete toddler with no sign of baby anywhere. Not to mention he wears a size 8 shoe. Yes... 17 months and a size 8 shoe {size 9 not too far behind}.  Sad sad day.

He loves talking, running, throwing and kicking the ball, playing basketball {literally}, still loves his dogs and loves being outside. I swear it's the end of the world when he has to come back indoors. I can't wait until the weather gets nicer so that we can stay outdoors longer. Just a few more weeks I imagine.

He fills my day with laughter and babbles. Tell me that his laugh is not infectious. {I dare you}.

House:  We are insanely in love with our house and can not wait to get our year in order. When we purchased the home it was covered in brush overgrowth. Shortly after moving in we tore up everything. We have since lived through the winter months with nothing but dirt. We are in desperate need of some landscaping. Soon. Soon.

As for the interior of the home, we have been slowly getting there. When I say slowly, I mean s.l.o.w.l.y.  We have yet to have one room that is "complete". All of them are by far livable and safe, but I wouldn't call them decorated. Kyah's would have to be the closest and it's not even done.  I'm about to buckle down and hit it hard so hopefully in the next 5-6 months we will have majority of the home decorated and organized and "done".  Of course, a house is never done, but it will be closer.

Me: Other than loving on my baby and stealing all of his sugars and playing outside all day long, I have been enjoying a few small "me tasks" on the side. Working on adoption profiles, creating mommy contact cards and thrifting.

I have also been having some health issues that I have not mentioned until now. Since the birth of my son and the small bowel obstruction that occurred after my hysterectomy, I have been having some complications.  Note:  The most common cause of a SBO is due to abdominal or pelvic surgeries. Since mine was such an emergency, I was a one of the lucky little duckies that got a SBO as a result.  Anywhoodles, I have been dealing with some of the effects for about 18 months now and I am finally getting some treatment.  I don't feel that it is anything major, but it is something that has been a concern of mine and a discomfort for far too long.  Some of the effects have been: weight loss. I do not feel that I am absorbing all of the nutrients from my food. I take vitamins and supplements {probiotic etc} to help, but that can only do so much.  I have also noticed that I have to watch what I eat because it may or may not {pardon me} exist for quite sometime. Meats are definitely a concern for my system and cause me lots of pain and nausea. This is not so cool because I have been anemic since my blood transfusion and I need the iron. Eh... life goes on.  All in all, I'm a healthy booger but these are a few of the things that I am getting checked out.  I have blood work to get completed on Monday to make sure that my cell counts are all back to normal after, oh... 18 months, of having a transfusion. One would think that a blood transfusion is a blood transfusion and you would be done with it. Not quite the case.

Ending:  I will be posting more pictures this coming week to sum up and share more about all of the listed topics. This was just a bunch of reading. However.... I know that you love me enough that you made it to this point.

Is that SLIME?

Seriously my friends, I have NEVER had more fun with  a "substance" in my entire life. Many of you know this activity through grade school. Let's just say my grandschool was mega boring because I never got to make this awesomeness.  This "awesomness" that I am referring to is called Oobleck. Apparently I am way behind in the "times". I'm working on it.

Is it a Solid? I see a crack in it?

Nope! Not a solid... Or wait. Is it? It's not wet. It just LOOKS wet!
I'm confused.
Last year I was forwarded information about Oobleck. I decided that I would save it until I felt Kyah was old enough to enjoy the activity. Little did I know that I would fight him for it because it was so cool. {I kid, I didn't fight him over it, just moved him over so I could play}.

For those of you that have never heard of Oobleck, I totally encourage you to make it. It's super easy and it's pefect for those days where you are looking for that special indoor activity.

For those of you that have children old enough to explain things to you, this would be a great time to have your kids try and explain the texture of this. It's nearly impossible, but there is no wrong answer.
What You Need:

My personal opinion {and you know your kid best} is that 17-18 months is about as young as I would go. Of course, the age limit is endless.

Not only was this extremely easy and cheap to make but I'll be honest in saying that it was an even easier clean up. I grabbed ONE wet paper towel and wiped up the mess on the floor, the tray and his clothes. It wiped up so easy. Run hands under water and it washes off like no body's business!

Now go... have some Oobleck fun!

Fort Dub

First of all, thank you so much for all of the lovely comments you left on my last post. You girls sure know how to brighten a day.

Kyah and I have been thouroghly enjoying our time indoors. As many of you know, Texas has been beaten down with ice and snow. Lucky for us, we moved a little further south and got out of the way... for the most part. We were hit with about 2" of snow and ice this past week and are "supposed" to have sleet/ice mix again tonight. We shall see about that.

I am all about turning the TV off and playing! Being hands-on and encouraging creativity!  Some of you may own those little "baby tents" as I like to call them. You know, the ones that pop up and fold and twist back together. Yea, well... we have one of those too. It's a darn shame he outgrew it already, even though the age on the box says 3. What are they thinking? He leans against the side of it and it falls over and squishes him inside. Just another cause of frustration for a teething toddler. No fun.

ALL of that being said,I would like to welcome you all to Fort Dub! Well, really it's just a bunch of blankets in the family room drapped over a large floor candle and a few chairs and tucked into the entertainment center.
I raided the sheet box that I keep on hand {for activities} and we pulled out a few blankets as well.  We brought two dining chairs from the table and the candle stick in the corner. In the end we had a FORT!  Fort Dub to be exact!

We played in Fort Dub for at least 2 hours.
He brought in a few toys and moved them from chair to chair.  We even "roasted marshmallows" over a "fire"....

I put a few marshmallows on Chop Sticks. Worked like a charm and he had so much fun!

Mmmmm!

... And we finished it off by watching a Baby Einstein.
Even Jay Girl joined in and watched the flick.

Come to think of it, I don't know the last time I played in a Fort, but it was awesome and I am already looking forward to doing it again.

We have been up to all sorts of other fun hands-on activities that I will be sharing in the coming days!

What are some of YOUR favortie Snowed In activities?

Re-Creation inspired by Pottery Barn

I'm all for saving a buck, how bout' you? Yea, I figured as much. Who would ever "want" to pay full price for something when they can get it or make it on the cheap. I agree.

The other day while flipping pages in my beloved Pottery Barn catalog I saw these two preeties.  I loved them. I just didn't love their price tag. What I loved most about the one on the left, the lantern style, was that it was simple, open and that it could hang.  The votive holder was calling my name simply because of the bird on top! Love!

However, as pretty as they were, there was no way on earth I would spend $99 on the "lantern" nor would I ever spend $129 on a votive holder. Who can justify that?

Instead I sighed and turned the pages.

Because I keep a mental list  sometimes a hand written list of things that my heart desires but my wallet can't afford, I knew that I would find something that would meet my needs eventually. Little did I know it would be so soon.

The next day while out thrifting, I spotted  the most perfect complication of the two peices {open lantern, candle, hanging and birds}. It was adorable and exactly what I needed for the space I had invisioned.  After looking more carefully I spotted TWO! The best part. $7.49 each! Yes, you heard me right!

Adorable Right?

Hanging perfectly in their new home!

What do you think?  Have there been any "on the cheap" projects that you have done recently? Do share! A girl can never have too much inpiration.

It's not what I can do, but what HE has done

I was recently blessed with the opportunity to give a little 4 year old boy, Ethan, a birthday party at the local Children's Home. On a budget of about $100 I was able to throw him a very special Birthday Party that was themed around one of his favorite super heros, Batman!

Without going into too much detail, the children that live at the Children's Home are not adoptable children, but they are being cared for greatly by house parents known as Mom and Pop. Some will spend a few months there and some will be placed at this home and live there until they graduate high school.

All of these children hold a special place in my heart and I am excited to share their Birthday's with you.

It was back in November that I first found this place. I waited 2 months to have a tour of the campus and finally was assigned as a sponsor for a particular "cottage" that did not have anyone to give these precious babies birthday parties!  With help of friends on facebook and a few fellow blog readers, I was blessed with the income to not only host 1 birthday party, but I have enough to help with the other 3 parties that will be held in the following weeks. {2/14, 3/9 & 3/26}.

Please enjoy these photos from Saturday's Batman Birthday Party theme.

The "set up". Each child that lives in this cottage received a "goody bag".
The color theme was of course, Black and Yellow. I bought him 4 gifts {three of which he asked for and 1 surprise}. To him, they were all surprises but still things that he wanted.

The "sweets" table!

The goodie bags. They were filled with necessities as well as lots of fun goodies!

I found these adorable little tins in the dollar section of Target. Perfect timing.
I made some popcorn and drizzled with chocolate. Yum!

Pinapple Soda for the beverage. Gotta stick with the color scheme!

One of the games that I made to play. I was quite impressed that I was able to free hand that batman.
If they threw the balls and landed on black they won a prize!

ETHAN! Isn't he just a doll! Happy 4th Birthday big boy!
The shirt he is wearing was made by Emily at Emily's Expressions. She kindly donated it so that he would have a personalized Birthday shirt!  I highly recommend her work.

My husband bought him a Batman Mask. He wanted him to have something extra special. He LOVED it!

Me and the Birthday Boy. We were putting together a huge floor puzzle.

Blowing bubbles from his Goodie Bag!

THE CAKE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ETHAN!
I am so honored that I got to be a part of his special day. I'm not sure who walked away more blessed. Me or him.

{If you would like to donate to any of the future birthdays I would gladly use 100% of the donations towards the birthdays.  Better yet, if you sponsor a birthday party at your local Children's home please let me know. I would love to see pictures and encourage you along the way. Email for details}.
