An Apple a Day....

If only eating an apple held this much joy for all of us....

This my dear bloggy peeps {and family} this is my dearest baby boy.

He loves him some apples!

While he is growing up and maturing into a fine young toddler, moments like these remind me of just how tiny he still is.
Decided that he only wanted some apple 'juice' with that bite.
To heck with the actual apple.

So fun and full of life. So easily amused and entertained.
I pray that he keeps that twinkle in his eye for all of eternity!

I'm not afraid to post pictures of dead things....

With all due respect of course, this day was a very sad day in our house.

You see, we had Poncho for 6 months. Poncho came home with us from Kyah's 1st birthday party and was a faithful friend for many months.  He was a great little gold fish.  While he kept to himself much of the time we had a great time watching him swim laps in his bowl and wiggle his way to the surface when it was time for some yummy flakes.

His home was cleaned once a week and was treated with the best of care.

Mommy decided that since he was such a good little fish she would buy him a friend.

Poncho's friend came home to live with him and was anything but a friend. This new little guy, who we named lil' nickel was a cutie. A cutie that died 5 days later. He was a nice little fellow. A very sharing fish {if there is such a thing}. You see... lil' nickel shared this nasty little disease with Poncho.

Poncho was a fighter and lived a week longer than we thought he would.  It was a very sad morning to wake and find him in a "forever sleep".

Kyah was such a trooper {as any 18 month old is} and was excited to upgrade his fish choice to a beta. A beta named Bogie.

The end.

Trash to Treasure: Spring Green Patio Side Table

So... for those you that are new, I'm in the process of decorating my back porch. Exciting huh! We moved into our new house during winter and now that Spring is around the corner, I'm dying to make my little oasis outside. I can't wait until it's done.  I can just picture it. Sipping on my lemonade, reading a good book {which by the way I just bought Water for Elephants} and watching little man play with his new set of golf clubs. Have you ever seen an 18 month old play golf.... edible, I tell ya. Edible.

Back on track:

I found this amazing little table at Goodwill for $14. It seemed a bit much, considering I bought this table for only $7. But, I knew was sturdy and had good bones.  I also knew that it would fit perfectly under a window that I have on my patio.

I gave her a nice coat of paint to help tie in the chair cushions from these chairs. I simply mixed an oops green with a bit of white paint to lighten it up a little.

I took off the hardware and filled it in with wood filler. After that set for a few minutes [I'm impatient], I started to sand.  I painted and then applied a new little knob {pull} that I had bought at Michaels for $1 last year.

I distressed it a bit, cause that's just what you do right?  I mean, after all it's shabby-chic.
In the end, she's a little pretty that sits under the planned window and serves as a nice little table that is just one more step to having my comfy-shabby-chic-style-patio!
Have you done anything new to spruce up your patio for the spring? If so, please leave it in the comments. I would LOVE to see it and be inspired by others.

It all started when...

FYI... Apparently google is in no hurry to process my photo storage request. I have now been waiting about 72 hours when it was only supposed to take 24.  Hmph!

I want to share with you an incredible fundraiser that is being held in honor of a beautiful 7 year old girl named Sierra's adoption.  Each year they celebrate her adoption day by hosting a fundraiser to raise funds for a family that is wanting to, or is in the process of adopting.  This year we were the family that she chose to raise funds for. Is she amazing or what!  You can read her story and our story HERE.

They have a great relationship with the owner of The Pickett Fence.  The Pickett Fence is well known for their fabric flower clips. Simple adorable!  Sierra worked with the owner and chose the fabrics that she wanted to use for her fundraiser.  The Pickett Fence made 25 bows to sell for the fundraiser.

Last night, The Pickett Fence hosted their first fundraiser for us on Facebook.  She made 25 fabric flower clips with hopes of selling them all by next Sunday.

The great news...

She sold ALL of them in a little over an hour!

I can not seem to find the words to thank them near enough, so I would like to encourage you to visit The Pickett Fence on Facebook and check them out for yourself.

It's such a humbling feeling to know that there are so many people out there {that I don't even know} that care enough to raise funds so that we may welcome a baby girl into our family.

{insert sad face}

Just a heads up that I do have some fun things to share. Instead I have to wait 24 more hours because I ran out of picture space and had to purchase more from google.

{insert extra sad face here}

What's Coming:
- Another Patio Table Re-do. This is more for you crafty people that care what my Patio Furniture looks like. Oh wait... that's all of you. {smile}

- Pictures from a very fairy Tinkerbell Party at the local Childrens Home. For a low budget, 30 minute party, it actually turned out pretty swanky!

-  I have an "I Need Help" post, where I will share with you all some pictures of areas in my home that need some TLC.  I am going to reach out and get your advice. I have some amazing ideas, but I want to make sure that I am not missing anything before I jump into another major overhaul.

In addition, I have a very special "something" to introduce you to in April! I'm sure I've been more excited about something, at some point in my life, but I can't remember! It's that good!

Stick around and I'll see ya in 24!

Kyah's 18 Month Update

My son is a year and a half old.  My son is a year and a half old.  WOW! I had to type that twice to let it sink in.

Time has flown by so incredible fast. These past 6 months {from his first birthday to now} have been filled with moving, settling in, travels and fun!  Time has gotten away from us a bit I suppose.
He is growing like a weed. Tall and lean like mom and dad. He is 35" tall and 27.5 lbs.  It was cute and sad to see him stand at the wall chart and not lay down to be measured. He was adorable standing there tall and straight.
I know I always miss a bazillion things, but here is what I can remember from this last month.

What he can say:
- Still says a number of words that I can count. Not a huge vocabulary, but enough that we can communicate on some sort of level.  A few of his favorites: Outside, Dada, Mama, Cohen {our dog}, Jayja Gur {Jaycee Girl-our dog}, Fan, Fish, Please, More, Slide, What's That, wow, oh {instead of uh oh, it's just oh}, Nana, Apple, balloon, moo, elfant {elephant}.
- He has learned how to say A.B.C.D. After that he claps for himself and says "yay".

What he has Mastered:
- He has mastered the spoon feeding {just recently I might add}.  It's so sweet to see those little hands fill a little spoon and take it up to a little mouth.
- He will repeat anything that I do. Just the other day I was ironing. I would let him near me {cause it's hot and all} and he stood back watching.  After a few minutes he went and got my old hand mixer. It didn't have any "attachments" on it so I guess he assumed it was another iron. He grabbed a shirt from his dirty laundry and started "ironing" with the hand mixer. My heart just melts at stuff like that.
- He is also good at catching a football. He's been doing this for a few months, but it's till cute.
His Hobbies {or lack of}:
- He has quit dancing. I never thought the day would come but it has. He will only dance in the car.  I noticed this about a week ago. One day he danced, then the next day he didn't.
- He loves to sing. He will sing his own songs sometimes and then clap and say "yay" afterwards.
- He loves to sing Patty Cake and do all the hand motions. He tries the "spider" motion in Itsy Bitsy Spider. So adorable!
- He still loves the outdoors and would still live there if I would let him.
-  He is starting to like cars. He has never been a huge fan of them, but now he seems to really enjoy them. Not for long periods of time, but enough.
- He love playing basketball. He's getting good at this free throw shot.
- Loves, Loves, Loves, reading books.
- Stacking blocks is a huge past time. The most adorable thing about stacking blocks is the "Wow" that follows each one. He's so impressed with himself. ha
- Watching Baby Einstein. Only  Baby Neptune though. He doesn't like anything else. Still haven't found a tv show that he will watch either. He is NOT a TV watcher.
- Running! Oh my goodness. This child loves to run. He puts his little hands up to his chest and takes off. Cutness!

His Schedule:
- Wakes up at 7:30-8am every morning.
- Eats Breakfast
- Play Time for a few hours
- Eats a morning snack {normally fruit} and has some juice
- Nap at 12pm and sleeps until 3pm. {somedays it only 2-2.5 hours depending}.
- Lunch when he wakes
- More play time
- Bath at 6:30-7pm
- Bedtime 7-7:30pm {this usually depends on the time he wakes in the morning or if we had to go somewhere in the evening}.

This little boy has stolen every ounce of our heart and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Before & After: Patio Chairs {with an amazing secret}

There is nothing better than finding a good deal and making it better.

I found these two chairs at Goodwill for $4.99 each.  Cha-ching!  They were in great condition, just not very pretty. Pictures do not do it justice. They.were.bad. Especially the fabric. Ick.

I had a quart of "ooops" paint that I found at The Deeps {home depot} for $1.  Not sure of the color, but it's a nice light blue. Almost white.

TIP: Most of you probably know this, but anytime you are in The Deeps or Lowes be sure and look at their ooops paint. It's usually at the "door" of their little paint station areas. Just ask someone that works there if you can't find it. They'll point you in the right direction.  The ooopsy paint is so cheap. A gallon usually runs no more than $5.  I buy more quarts for $1.

So, back to my project. Well... more like a before and after since I lazied out and didn't do a tutorial.

After a nice coat of paint {and three coats of spray poly-acrylic}, some distressing here and there, and a little staple gun action to hold the new pretty green quatrefoil fabric on; I have me some new pretties to sit on my patio!

Aren't they so cute! They add just a touch of shabby-chicness.

Here's an up close of the whole chair.

I'm not sure if you are ready for this, but I am about to tell you a humongo secret that will change your life forever. Ready?

The dealio: I wanted to distress the chair leaving a tint of green on the wood.
What I did: I took a can of my favorite green spray paint and lightly sprayed a sheet of sandpaper.  I let it dry completely {about 5 minutes just to be sure}.   When I distressed the edges of my chair, it left behind a green tint on the surrounding edges. I love!
{look close and you can see it}

Is it just me or are you loving green and blue together this spring too?

Spiderman Birthday Party

You may remember Mr. Cooper from his brothers birthday party back on Valentines day.
Cooper and Ethan are both brothers that currently reside at the local Children's Home.  Being the Birthday Party queen that I have been declared, I set out to make his Spiderman Dreams come true. Of course, this was done yet again on a budget of no more than $75.

While this is by far a :very: simple party, I think that the Spiderman Theme carried out well.

Here are a few pictures {and ideas}.

Stuck with the Spiderman Colors when decorating the Birthday Space.

Drinks that stick with the color scheme.
They sell these little juice packs {6 for $1} at The Dollar Tree.
I bought the little plastic buckets there too.

My husband thought it would be more fun if they had masks!
He's the worlds greatest hubs. In all seriousness, he's amazing!!

They laughed when I filled a plastic tub with balloons. I assured them that they would play with them and have fun. Sure enough, first thing the ran over to play with. At any given time there was at least 1 balloon in the air.
A very simple sign that sat on the "junk food" table.

The Birthday Cake! Since this cake is for a home that only has 5 children, I kept is simple and bought a petite cake from Walmart. They added a few matching cupcakes to complete the look.
Cost: $8.00
Each child received a goodie bag filled with so many things. Everything ranging from bath wash and toothbrushes, to puzzles, candy, etc.

Mr. Birthday Boy!
Hope you had a very special birthday 5th Birthday Cooper!

Pantry Makeover 101

Let me first start by giving you one little tip. Do not {whatever the case might be}, ever, try and do a complete Pantry overhaul with a teething 18 month old that doesn't want to nap. Mmm-k? Mmm-k.

Now that we have that covered, let's move on to the fun stuff shall we?

When we bought this house and knew that we, I would have a walk in pantry, I knew that I wanted something clean and organized. Something with at least 2 square inches of space. These last few months have come and gone and the pantry was overflowing. I knew that it was time for a major overhaul.

Warning: Picture Overload

Let's start with the "mess".
Can we say eww!  {eww}

I chose to go with something that looked like this pantry makeover.  I headed out to buy all new containers and organization thingys. I'm obsessed with container thingys.

What I bought:
This particular loot was purchase at Ikea for about $75

Then it came to painting. I chose a grey paint color to bring out the stainless steel look of our kitchen appliances.  I was also going for a similar look to "said" pantry.
With a teething {I'm talking excessive cranky pants} toddler close at foot the entire time, it took me 2 days to get the painting completed.
Ooo La La right. Ok, so I'm not quite there yet.  Still some work to be done.

At night I would work on going through food items and discard those that were no longer used or that had expired. Easy Peasy! As I was sorting, I would start  putting some of the items into their new containers. That was the fun part!

This my dear friends was the mess that I dealt with for days. Talk about a "Hi Honey, welcome home from your long day at work. Cereal is what's for for dinner and we are eating on the couch. This was my day, how was yours?"

Eventually though, things started to come together and everything was cleaned up and put back in it's new home.

Ahh. I can not tell you how nice it is to open the door to a panty that is nice and organized.
So much better....

I removed all appliances and cleared the floor.
All food items were returned in new containers {with the exception of the expired items or the ones that my hubs ate all but 3 bites and put back in the pantry}.

 Up Close and Personal:

We love pasta! Really... you didn't notice?

I found this cute little metal bag at goodwill for $2. It made the perfect holder for all of our hot chocolate and hot apple cider.

I put all of the canned goods on the bottom shelf. I was tired of looking at them right when I opened the door. This way they are still very easy to get to, but not in sight.

Our little snack basket. This is on the bottom shelf so that Kyah can get a snack for himself.
He chooses his snack and I of course open it for him.
Those swiss rolls, yea, those are mine. Not his!

Best. Idea.Ever!  Clearing out the cereal boxes.
Why didn't I think of this sooner.
This freed up so much space.
I simply removed the bag of cereal from the box, rolled down the top, put on a clip and tucked it away in this crate.
You- Me- Genius. {totally love that commercial}

All Foil, Parchament Paper, baggies, etc are stored in a basket. It sits on the top shelf and is now easy to pull down and choose my item. Used to I would reach up there and try and find the item I was looking for, only to have everything else crash down on my head.
I'm pretty sure that only happens to me??!

Only the worlds greatest snack and chocolate fix!
I also snack on nuts {which you can see in the background}.

I removed all of my spices from their original containers and put them in these new nifty little jars that I bought at Ikea.
{$4 for 4}
I use my spices {pretty much} everyday so I'm used to knowing which is which.
However, I labeled the bottom of each jar accordingly just in case.

For the spices that are small {and cute as they are}, I simply put them together in a cute little tin that I purchase at Goodwill for $1. Love it!

mmm.
I found this adorable little wire basket at Goodwill for $2 and knew exactly what I was going to use it for. Wha-La!
More Kyah goodies.
Whole Wheat Crakers and Maria Cookies.

All of the food items that are not organized into a new container where stored behind the pasta. Keeps it looking neat and tidy.

I found this awesome little wine rack for $3 at Goodwill.
It is PERFECT for holding my cooking oils, soy sauce and extra salad dressing bottles.

Bread Basket was a must! We use way too many breads to just sit around. They are now nicely stored in a basket.

My little spice packets are arranged nicely in another tin that I purchase from Goodwill for $1. This little thinga-ma-jig is awesome! So easy to find my spices.

These super neat Tight Seal Jars were $2 at Ikea. I have olive oil, syrup and veggie oil stored in them now.  I cook with olive oil and bake with my veggie oil. Apparently I need more of both. I figured that out when I filled the jars. {hence the reason for clear containers}.

Here we have Oatmeal, Powdered Sugar and Whey Protein.
I still do not have my labels for these, but they should be coming soon.
I was just to antsy to share before they got here.

Here you can see my "Breakfast" items.
In the background you can see a few of my baking items.

The Bad News:
I didn't end up with the pretty "detail" as I would have liked. The vinyl for the backround {to cover the walls} was going to cost me $380 and that my friends is not going to happen right now. Especially for a pantry. Saving for adoption is more important.

The Great News:
Not only has my new pantry saved my sanity, it has saved me money. I now know what items I need to purchase and can plan accordingly. It takes me just a few minutes to run inventory before I head to the grocery store. I have found that I am not buying duplicate items. Nor am I getting home without purchasing an essential that I thought I had.  All around, it's a win, win, win.

What do you think?
