I posted about the Dub Finches a few weeks ago and thought I would post one last time to say farewell. It was a short lived time of enchantment as they were born and had since departed the patio oasis. Ok, so it is not quite an oasis yet, but they don't know any different right? {I'll just keep telling myself that}.
For weeks, I would get up and take pictures of them and be very careful not to touch them. I would bring Kyah up with me and he would peep in the nest and say "aww". We would wake in the morning and he would ask me to "outside, birrrrrds". Adorable!
We went to the store and bought a feeder and special black oil sunflower seeds to feed them. We didn't want them to fly too far for food. They needed their energy for the babies. Yes I know, I'm totally sappy like that.
Anything for the babies.
They went from being these little creatures with faux hawks with this crazy looking lump in their throats to these little boney winged tweets. A few short days later they were all grown up and ready to spread their wings and fly.
My parents came to visit and had to take a peek at the baby dub tweets. I b.a.r.l.e.y. tapped the hanging planter and three went flying. Seriously. They had never flown before that. Ever! We are always outside playing and they just lay in there soaking up their momma's attention and letting her be their personal maid. Not that day. Oh no. They have to go show off their new found skills {in which I forced upon them} and one falls to the ground and into the mouth of my dog. Bless my sweet father for falling to the ground and saving little dub tweet number three. Whew!
I am happy to report that we welcomed 2 new boys and 2 new girls into our family. All 6 birds have come for daily visits to the feeder and are enjoying their summer days soaring in the sky.
What a fun journey.... even if they did kill the new fern I bought for my patio oasis.
Oh... and aren't you glad that we don't poop on our baby's cribs like this. eww!
